Those attending the Equitainment Extravaganza Nightshow at Equidays will get to see some of New Zealand’s best polo players competing in an indoor polo match. This will be the first time that polo has been played inside with the condensed format sure to provide a thrilling spectacle to watch.
Equidays Event Manager Ammie Hardie speaks of this exciting game featuring in the Saturday Nightshow, “We are looking forward to having a live polo match as part of the Equitainment Extravaganza.”
“The atmosphere of the game being played in the NRM & McMillan Indoor arena will be pretty impressive and it’s going to be great to see such talented polo players battling it out,” says Hardie.
The game will be played with three players aside, compared to four aside when played outside, in a fierce battle of possession and accuracy. The limited space of playing indoors will make the game more of a physical one with short sharp bursts to get to the opponent and lots of contact between players sure to feature.
Players will include best Australasian player John Paul Clarkin as well Simon Keyte, Will Hunt, Dean Fullerton and Sam Kirkpatrick, all from the Mystery Creek club, and Henry Jones of Hololio. Team One is supported by Strong Built Barns with the riders wearing navy and white while Team Two is supported by Kia Kaha Forge in a light grey and orange uniform.
The polo season traditionally kicks off in December, so it’s taken some work to get the horses ready and riders confirmed thanks to local polo icon Simon Keyte.
The Polo game will last for 25 minutes as part of the Equitainment Extravaganza Nightshow on Saturday 19 October following the intermission break.
