Jackie Chant

Jackie Chant is a horse lover and New Zealand’s most qualified Natural Horse.Man.Ship Licensed Parelli Professional.   A 4 Star Senior Licensed Parelli Instructor and horse development specialist, Jackie is regarded as one of Pat and Linda Parelli’s most experienced instructors worldwide and now leads a team of Parelli instructors here in New Zealand. After attending her first Parelli Clinic in December 1996 she has never looked back.

With a background in showing, dressage, show jumping and eventing Jackie’s move into natural horsemanship seemed to happen by accident when she found herself going along to a clinic with the thought of learning how to handle young and difficult horses with more success.  Little did she know it was about to change her whole life.

“In the first half hour of that Partnership (Level 1) clinic I realised just how much I didn’t know about horses.  How could I have expected to get extraordinary results with horses if I didn’t even understand how they feel, think, act and play as a prey animal?  I learnt that horsemanship could be obtained naturally through psychology, communication and understanding verses mechanics, intimidation and punishment.    At the time I had a very difficult thoroughbred with a lot of emotional displaced behaviours causing him to be extremely sensitive and unpredictable – nothing was easy.  By following Pat Parelli’s training program I gained much more insight into horses and that if difficult situations came up, I now had strategies to diffuse them and continue in the training program.  I had discovered that Parelli would not only fix problem horses, but more importantly, problem horse handlers!  It was my responsibility to learn to communicate in a way my horse could understand me.  It was the relationship that needed fixing!”

Jackie was accepted into the Parelli Professionals Instructor program in 1999 and has continued to study overseas with Pat & Linda Parelli every year since.  This has helped Jackie to progress with her own horsemanship and attend training where all Parelli Instructors gain skills and advanced teaching techniques.  Which is why Parelli Natural Horse.Man.Ship is now the most provocative and progressive equine behaviour and training program in the world today.

Jackie has gained extensive experience and has dedicated her time to teaching the Parelli Program throughout New Zealand and internationally.  She teaches clinics in the UK  & Europe annually, and at all of the Parelli Centres in the US, UK and Australia.  Jackie is also a Licensed Horse Development specialist with advanced skills to train foals, weanlings, starting under saddle and foundation training naturally.
