Dan Steers
Dan grew up in the South West of Western Australia and was first introduced to horses in his early teens. At fifteen he began working for Master farrier and Horseman Pete Webber. It was there Dan developed both his horsemanship and farrier skills.
At seventeen Dan began working for cutting Trainer Corry Holden in Cobram Victoria where he spent the following six months training and breaking horses. It was there that Dan was first recognised in the show ring, winning many senior junior cutting events. In early 2002 Dan returned to Western Australia and began working at Tauton Vale – a large Thoroughbred and Australian Stock Horse Stud. Here he was involved in all aspects of breeding, training showing and yearling preparation.
In 2007 Dan won the ACA Western Australian Reserve Champion Open Campdraft rider after winning multiple campdrafts and Stock horse futurities. Dan is actively involved in Campdraft judging where he is able to invest back into the sport he loves.
Dan's love of horses and desire to diversify his skills led him to work with master farrier Brent Tyler. It was over a three year period he developed his knowledge and skills – shoeing horses for many disciplines and working closely with local veterinarians whilst managing a ten thousand acre cattle property. He was conducting regular horsemanship clinics and became well respected for his horsemanship skills and talent in the arena.
In 2008 Dan joined his good friend Dan James at ElCaballo Spanish Horse centre, Wooroloo Western Australia, where they founded "Double Dan Horsemanship” and performed as “The Dan & Dan Show” each weekend refining his showmanship and training skills. In 2009 Dan & Dan relocated their training business to North Arm Cove, New South Wales . One of the highlights of Dans experiences so far was in 2010 – Kentucky USA – World Equestrian Games – Double Dan Horsemanship were clinicians throughout the games.
Dan has a passion for breaking and training horses as well as performing to a wide audience. He aims to educate and enlighten people across Australia and overseas as to the ways of successful horsemanship.
